Below are just some of the many activities you can do here at the Base.
Numeracy & Literacy
The group is run by a retired Teacher who has helped out at The Base for a couple of years. Each week there will be planned activities set at an appropriate level for a range of abilities.
Sessions will cover basic reading and writing skills, counting, sums and practical skills such as dealing with money, telling the time and measuring etc. The sessions will be engaging and well structured but informal.
The Garden Project
Hands on and classroom-based learning with all aspects of gardening and environmental issues on-site and within the local community. Understanding of the seasons of not only plant life but all its different and wonderful forms of habitat.
Come and get some fresh air. The session helps build communication and an awareness of the wonders of nature and gardening.
Drama
You will play an active role in preparing for a show – helping with a script, making props, costumes and backgrounds, learning lines and practicing performances. The productions allow the group to showcase new talents for family and friends—dancing, singing, comedy etc.
You don’t have to take part in the public performance if you don’t want to, behind the scenes parts can be organised. The main focus of the group is to provide a fun way for you to express yourself through Drama, learn new skills, build confidence and make new friends.
Arts & Crafts
The Arts & Crafts sessions will give you the opportunity to try a variety of crafts including painting, collage, jewellery making, t-shirt painting, sewing, modelling, card making, gifts etc. The main focus of the group is to learn new skills and potentially develop hobbies through the various crafts available.
Hi-Light Club & Healthy Heroes
The Hi-Light Club will include a talk about healthy choices, manageble excercises and some fun and engaging games providing easy ways to increase activity and fitness.
The Club is also an opportunity to improve your confidence and meet new people/team work.Come for the full day as a Healthy Hero – enjoy Hi-Light Club, Zumba, Cheerleading, a healthy lunch, activities and games and offsite excercise.
Afternoon Tea
The Afternoon Tea session provides an opportunity for people to meet up with friends, socialise, and play games like bingo, table top games, pool and the Nintendo Wii. A hot or cold drink and cake is included in the price.
Chair-Based Exercise
With physical conditions, it can be difficult to get the required exercise that is key to maintaining long-term health and well being. With Donna, she’ll lead you’ll through chair-based exercise that are simple, fun and most importantly, safe.

Stay The Day
People have the opportunity to spend a full day with us for a set daily fee – taking part in activities and supported by staff here at The Base. The fee includes all activity, support and lunch costs. This can often be funded via direct payments or organised with your social worker.
Stay The Day can be offered on a weekly or ad-hoc basis to cover college holidays etc. Please phone for more information or to book.
